Pre-trip Preparation

Pre-trip Preparation

Preparing for an overland trip can be stressful, particularly it seems in the last week or so.  Preparation is key, and so is the right information.

When you finally hit the road though you wonder what all the fuss was about!

Shorter trips can be treated as any holiday would, but if you’re planning to travel for some time there are many tasks to complete before you depart.

This section breaks down some of the tasks you may need to consider as you prepare for your travels.

What to take & what not to take!

I found deciding what to take almost as stressful as deciding what not to take!  Each person’s requirements differ and of course, it depends on the type of trip you are doing.  This section gives a broad range of information including: luggage options, technology and advice about clothing.  You can also read the packing lessons I’ve learned over the years.

Essential tasks to do before you travel

Depending on the type of trip you’re doing you may find you can breeze through pre-trip preparation but for some trips, working out visas, travel insurance and vaccinations can feel like a minefield.  It’s often easier than it seems.  If you’re planning on travelling for some time, you may find you have many tasks to complete in order for your time away to be as smooth as possible.

Money, Money, Money

Another area of pre-trip planning I found stressful.  Again, it depends where you’re going and for how long, but forearmed is forewarned.  Working out what format to take your money: cash, cards, pre-paid cards etc. is essential.  I’ve been caught out a few times assuming my bank cards would work in a country only to find they do not.  Preparation is key and this section helps you prepare.
